UK workers put in an average of 950.3million hours a week in just the first three months of this
year, new stats show.It’s the highest quarterly figure since records began — and 20million
hours more a week than the same 2012 quarter.Full-time employees clocked up 37.4 hours a
week — while part-timers did 15.9. But in the first three months of 1983, Brits worked a total of
791.7million hours a week — nearly 160million fewer than 2013.The total in work rose by more
than 400,000 in the past year and stood at 29.7million in the first 2013 quarter.
The Department for Work and Pensions said more than 90 per cent were full-time workers —
driving up the hours data.Employment minister Mark Hoban said 500,000 vacancies showed
there were “opportunities”.
